Fatal Hit-And-Run Driver Sought By St. Pete Police

St. Petersburg police are searching for the driver of a car which was involved in a crash in which a motorcyclist was killed.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Authorities are looking for a car involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash on Saturday. A social media post by the St. Petersburg Police Department says a motorcyclist was killed in the crash.

Investigators are looking for an older model, faded red Honda or Hyundai, which they say left the scene of the fatal crash at the intersection of 37th Street S. and 5th Avenue S. around 7:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8.

The suspect's car was headed west on 5th Avenue S. and turned left into the southbound lane of 37th Street in to the path of the motorcycle, driven by Brendan Hawkins, 24. The motorcycle hit the back right-hand side of the car and the suspect drove off, police say.

Hawkins was wearing a helmet. He was taken to a hospital where he later died, police say.
