MADEIRA BEACH, FL — Three boats were destroyed in a Thanksgiving Day fire at a Madeira Beach marina, officials said.

Firefighters responded to a reported boat fire just before 2 p.m. on Thursday and found three docked vessels “fully involved,” the Madeira Beach Fire Department wrote in a social media post. The report “quickly escalated into a multi-agency fire and hazmat response.”

Crews used two preconnected hoses - one to tackle the burning boats and the other to prevent the fire from spreading.

As more crews arrived, two more hoses were available and foam was used to help put out the flames.

“Water-side operations played a critical role,” including a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office marine unit and Marine 23, in controlling the burning boats as dock lines failed, fire officials said. “This allowed shoreside crews to board with a hoseline and attack the fire from improved angles.”

By the time the fire was contained, 20 units responded, including support from Treasure Island, Seminole, St. Pete Beach, Pinellas Suncoast, Largo, St. Petersburg, South Pasadena and PCSO.
