Green Thumb Festival Celebrates Arbor Day In St. Petersburg
The annual two-day celebration centers on trees and other horticultural exhibits.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – For the 31st year, St. Petersburg will give a green thumbs-up to Arbor Day with the Green Thumb Festival.
The two-day event is set to take place on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Walter Fuller Park, 7891 26th Ave. N. The Green Thumb Festival is free and has family-friendly activities for children and adults.
Mayor Rick Kriseman will accept the Tree City USA award for St. Petersburg and present the Green Thumb Annual Awards on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. on the main stage.

The Green Thumb Festival features 120 vendors, horticultural and environmental exhibits, programs and seminars highlighting ways to landscape efficiently, conserve natural resource, and recycle and improve the environment. The event will feature more than 1,200 trees will be on sale for $5, as well as a plant auction, a plant diagnostic clinic and tool sharpening.
The children’s area has been expanded for the 2017 Green Thumb Festival, which will take place both days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The children’s area features tree climbing for $10, a children’s plant fair, crafts and more.

The highlight of the children’s activities is the annual Garden Wagon Parade, which will take place on April 22 at noon. The top four decorated wagons will win ribbons and cash prizes. Registration is $5 before the event or $7 at the festival.
In conjunction with the Green Thumb Festival, the Garden Club of St. Petersburg will also host a flower show, presented by the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs District VIII. The show will take place in the Walter Fuller Recreation Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The City of St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation department is still seeking volunteers for the Green Thumb Festival. Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt.
