Largo Woman Killed in St. Pete Crash

Breaking: St. Petersburg Police are trying to identify a man who was with a pedestrian killed on 5th Avenue North Saturday morning.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating an early Saturday morning crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

According to the agency, Edward Eason, 45, of St. Petersburg was heading east on 5th Avenue North in the 2600 block in a Dodge Durango around 1:35 a.m. Oct. 1. As Eason traveled in the curb lane, police say a pedestrian, Dana Michelle Santoyo, 29, of Largo stepped off the curb and into Eason’s path.

“Eason braked and swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision, but struck Santoyo with the right front corner of his vehicle,” an email from police said. Eason stopped and called 911, police noted.

Santoyo was taken to Bayfront Health in critical condition, but was pronounced dead shortly before 2 a.m., police said.

Witnesses told police there may have been a white male in Santoyo’s company at the time of the crash. Police have not been able to identify him yet. They’re asking anyone with information about the crash to call 727-893-7780.
