Man Threw Dog Protecting Girl Off St. Pete Balcony: Sheriff
The dog was brought to a St. Pete area animal hospital with serious injuries, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A man faces multiple charges after throwing a pitbull who was protecting a 15-year-old girl from him off a balcony in unincorporated St. Petersburg on Monday night, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies responded to reports of animal abuse and lewd and lascivious conduct at the home around 7:10 p.m.
Investigators learned that earlier in the day, 44-year-old Nigel Myers followed the teenage victim into a bedroom of the home, the sheriff’s office said.

While she was able to leave the bedroom, Myers followed her into the living room and kept trying to get her back into the bedroom.
During this altercation, Sparta, a 3-year-old pit bull, jumped on Myers to protect the girl.

He picked up the dog and threw him against the top compartment of a dog cage before picking him up by his two hind legs and throwing him from the second-floor balcony, the sheriff’s office said.
Sparta was brought to a nearby animal hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.
Myers was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty, domestic battery, child abuse, and lewd and lascivious conduct.
