Margarita Wars Happening In Downtown St. Pete This Friday

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Margarita Wars 2024 is returning to downtown St. Petersburg at James Museum of Art on Friday, May 17 at 6 p.m. at 150 Central Ave. The annual festival is organized by Creative Loafing Tampa. Local restaurants in the Tampa Bay will battle it out for who makes the best margarita in town. Tickets are now available online and start at $75. Designated driver tickets start at $30.

The event is for those ages 21 and older. Event is rain or shine and no refunds will be given.

Guests at Margarita Wars will enjoy unlimited margarita samples as well as light-bites of Mexican food. There will also be photo opportunities around the event and guests will vote for who makes best margarita in town. There will be over 22 mixologists from around Tampa Bay at the event hoping to bring the winning title home. Drink responsibly and please don’t drink and drive.

The margarita is a legendary cocktail that goes all the way back to 1938, when the drink was believed to have been invented by Carlos (Danny) Herrera for Marjorie King. Other people believe the drink was created in the 1940s, according to a piece from Wine Enthusiast. The piece also notes that the cocktail was an evolution from The Daisy classic cocktail, which was once made with tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice and a splash of soda. Sound familiar?

Today you can find the beverage at restaurants around planet and Tampa Bay has numerous restaurants serving a variety of margarita variations. Data published by BEVNET shows that nearly a fifth of all drinks ordered in 2023 in the U.S.A. were margaritas.
