Events Happening At The 18th Annual Firestone Grand Prix of St. Pete 2022

The season opener for the 2022 IndyCar races happens in St. Petersburg this weekend at the Firestone Grand Prix.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The 18th Annual Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg opened Friday for the NTT IndyCar Series 2022.

"Romain Grosjean led the first practice of the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season in his first official drive with Andretti Autosport, pacing the Friday afternoon session for the Firestone Grand Pix," reported gpstpete.com.

Grosjean’s best lap of 1 minute in the No. 28 DHL Honda led by more than a tenth of a second over his teammate, Colton Herta, who placed econd at 1:01.1567 in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda.

Saturday

Day two of the festival starts at 8 a.m. with the Indy Pro 2000 second race and then Mazda MX-5 Cup and SRO GT America will have its race two competitions. Fans can head over to Fan Village for Indy Lights drivers who will sign autographs followed by an autograph session from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. with NTT IndyCar Series. Get ready to party IndyCar style in North Straub Park from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

It's a free activity that showcases race cars from six of the racing series competing on the Firestone Grand Prix presented by RP Funding. Special guests, including NTT Indycar Series athletes, and prizes will be at the party, too. Fireworks will fill the sky at 8 p.m.

Sunday

Gates open at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, and the NTT IndyCar Series warm up starts at 8:45 a.m.

Drivers for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg introductions begin at 11:50 p.m., and the NTT IndyCar Series Race that includes 100 laps begins at 12:30 p.m.

The race will be televised on NBC at 12:30 p.m. with commentary beginning at noon.
