First Career Go-Ahead, Round-Tripper For Tampa Bay Rays Outfielder Manuel Margot

The Tampa Bay Rays outfielder, Margot, has had a few MLB firsts since Friday night's win over the Mariners.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Tampa Bay Rays' outfielder Manuel Margot has been chosen the American League Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet, a Major League Baseball (MLB) news release said.

Margot hit his first career go-ahead round-tripper in the top of the ninth inning giving the Rays an 8-6 lead over the Seattle Mariners Friday night. This is Margot's first Player of the Year award in the American League, and his second career PW, earning his first in July 2017 when he played with the San Diego Padres, according to MLB.

This is the first Rays winner since Brandon Lowe for the period ending August 16, 2020.

Margot homered in three consecutive games from Friday-Sunday against the Mariners, becoming the first Rays player since Brandon Lowe last season (Sept. 29-Oct. 2).

Another first for Margot was Saturday night when he hit the first grand slam of his career and the first by a Rays batter since Joey Wendle on August 29 of last season.
