Scooter Driver Critical After St. Pete Crash

Breaking: A single-vehicle motor scooter crash on 58th Street Sunday night resulted in a critical injury.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A motor scooter driver is in critical condition following a Sunday night crash along 22nd Avenue North and 58th Street.

According to St. Petersburg Police, a 2007 Suzuki scooter was heading westbound on 22nd Avenue North around 11 p.m. The scooter’s rider attempted to turn left onto 58th Street, but went wide, struck a curb and leaned over. The scooter then scraped the asphalt with its left side, police said.

“The scooter bounced back upright, sending the un-helmeted driver off the right side of the scooter,” an email from police said. The male rider struck his head on the west curb of 58th Street, police said.

The rider was taken to Bayfront Health in critical condition. Police have not yet released his name.
