Intimate FL Wine Bar Expands To Serve Coffee During The Day

An intimate downtown St. Pete beer and wine bar not far from city hall is now serving coffee during daytime hours.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A downtown St. Petersburg coffee shop recently launched a new business model — it’s now doubling as a coffee shop during the day.

While Bar Chinchilla at 439 1st Ave. N. has served beer and wine in an intimate setting at night for nearly six years, customers can now enjoy an espresso drink, cold brew and matcha during the day.

“From a business standpoint, we don’t open until 4 o’clock every day. Our little spot just sits there most days not being used,” Lynsey Carlson, bar manager, told Patch. “We’ll have whole meetings in there. I’ll go in to get work done. It’s a nice, little spot in a nice, little, centrally located area.”

Bar Chinchilla is known as “the smallest bar in St. Petersburg, though we have a ton of wine options,” according to Carlson.

The coffee shop component of the business builds on this sentiment.

“We’re small but mighty, we always say; so why not offer more in there and pack in the coffee?” she said.

The bar will serve espresso-based drinks, Hogg Batch cold brew and other drinks, as well as light pastries from Two-Bite Tuesdays from Wednesday through Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We’re definitely open earlier than a lot of coffee shops in town,” Carlson said.

Eventually, they plan to expand by offering an authentic chai recipe and other teas, and additional food items.

So far, the community has welcomed the new coffee shop, she added. “We’re definitely seeing a lot of regulars and just, organically, people maybe on a morning walk or walking to work and seeing this place that’s never open. It’s another opportunity to get people in here.”

The wine bar’s hours, Tuesday through Sunday, 4 to 10 p.m., remain the same.
