St. Petersburg Library Hosts 'Veterans of Color' Film Screening

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - The James Weldon Johnson Community Library, 1059 18th Avenue South, presents a screening and discussion of the film Veterans of Color on Saturday, November 5 beginning at 1 p.m. Created by the Manasota chapter of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), the film preserves the voices of African American veterans from nearby communities.

Following the film presentation, a panel of local St. Petersburg veterans who have served our country throughout wartime will share their own stories of courage, adversity and triumph in a live discussion format moderated by Gwendolyn Reese, representative of the African American Heritage Association of St. Petersburg, FL, Inc.

This event is the third in a series of programs featuring local veterans of color. Locally produced this film was a response to the U.S. Congress Veterans Project initiative to preserve and make accessible personal accounts of American war veterans to enable future generations to hear directly from the

veterans the realities of their experience.

The program is free and open to the public on Saturday, November 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. The Johnson Community Library is located at 1059 18th Avenue South in St. Petersburg.
