Suspect In Auto Theft, Vehicle Burglary Spree Arrested: St. Pete Police

A man faces multiple charges in connection with an auto theft and vehicle burglary spree, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A suspect in a vehicle burglary and auto theft spree was arrested and faces multiple charges, St. Petersburg police said in a news release.

Police responded to reports of a man walking up and peering into the windows of vehicles parking in driveways on Sunday around 2 a.m.

When confronted by officers, Cornelius Edwards ran from them but was eventually arrested near 86th Avenue North and 14th Street north, police said.

Edwards was wearing a ski mask and gloves, and had two handguns on him at the time of his arrest. One of the handguns was stolen in a vehicle burglary the day before.

He was charged with loitering and prowling, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.

Edwards was also linked to at least six cases under investigation in the area and also charged with armed burglary to a conveyance, principal armed burgarly to a conveyance, principal burglary to a conveyance and three counts of principal grand theft motor vehicle, police said.

He may face additional charges.
