Beckett Bridge on Riverside Drive is Closed
Officials said Monday afternoon they are hopeful the bridge can be reopened in 48 hours. Here's some info on possible detours.

The Beckett Bridge on Riverside Drive in Tarpon Springs has been closed until engineers can complete an evaluation of a problem in the roadway that arose overnight, officials said Monday.
A traffic detour plan is still being established.Β
Possible detour routes to neighboring residential areas include Whitcomb Drive, Meres Boulevard, or from U.S. 19, take Klosterman Road westbound to Carlton Road, then north to Curlew and west to Florida Avenue.

"The issue on the eastbound side of the bridge will be repaired by county staff and engineers are hopeful that the bridge can be reopened in 48 hours," Pinellas County Government said in a media release sent just after 1:30 p.m. Monday.
The bridge, which traverses Whitcomb Bayou,Β was originally constructed of timber in 1924 and rebuilt in concrete in 1956. There have been major repairs to the structure in recent years, with the latest repair completed in 2011.
