City Receives Arts Grant

The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded the city $35,000 for the Center for the Gulf Coast Folk Life.

The Center for Gulf Coast Folk Life just got a boost in funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The City of Tarpon Springs will receive a $35,000 grant to support programs offered by the center. The Center for Gulf Coast Folk Life is located at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center, 101 South Pinellas Ave.

The center presents local, state and regional traditions to Tarpon Springs and the greater Tampa Bay area including featured folk artists and reoccurring festivals.

Among their offerings are "Night in the Islands," a monthly Greek music and dance event; the Gulf Coast Maritime Festival; and the Gulf Coast Folklife Festival, which has an emphasis on African American folk arts.Β 

This is the fifth year that the city has received an NEA grant to support folklife programs.
