Discovery Playground Improvements Planned

Much of the existing playground will be rebuilt.

Discovery Playground will get a facelift under a plan approved by city commissioners this week.

The commission approved $162,750 in funds that would go to new equipmentΒ and safety precautions earlier this week. A new tot lot would be constructed under the new plan as well.

Among the biggest renovations will be the removal of the majority wooden play area and replacing it with plastic and recycled composite materials. The entrance to theΒ park, located at 150 JasmineAvenue, would be moved. Instead the tot lot would be at the front of the 10,000 square feet playground, according toΒ the plan. The tot lot would be for kids ages 2-5.

Some of the wood at the playground will be restored and sealed making it safer for play.

A highlight of the project is that the contractor will be building much of the new playground as opposed to pre-manufactured materials.Β
