RNC Delegates to Visit Tarpon Springs

Although the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac rained on the RNC's parade at the beginning of the week, the convention is now in full swing. Delegates, including a number from Florida, will be visiting Tarpon Springs at some point this week.

Businesses are preparing to shine in hopes of leaving an impression on visitors.

"We have a great opportunity to really showcase the beauty that we have here," said Michael John, owner and operator of Native Tours in Tarpon Springs. Michael John is preparing to give guests a guided tour that will shed light on Tarpon's rich culture and valuable history.

The area will be pampering delegates with a hydration station, complete with drinking water as well as wine and coffee tastings. Live music is also expected to fill the air, taking the entertainment value to another level.

"It's been a total community effort," said Michael John.

Businesses from the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks to the historic district of Tarpon Avenue are hoping that the delegates will return after their initial visit. The fact that the visitors are Floridians is "perfect," according to Michael John, because the distance is ideal for a quick road trip or weekend getaway.

Boe Rushing, owner of Back in the Day Books, said that the visit should boost the city's popularity. "I think we are just hoping that we'll get some follow up business," said Rushing.

The tight knit community of businesses in Tarpon Springs seems to be on track with creating a strong desire, among guests, to return to the city.

"We'll make a good impression on them,"  Rushing added.
