Make Your Own Emergency Kit

As hurricane season heightens and the threat of natural disaster rises, be prepared with your own safety kit.

We’ve compiled a list of items that will help you be more prepared if disaster strikes:

  • Water (at least a three-day supply; one gallon per person, per day)
  • Food (at least a three-day supply of non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food, per person)
  • Flashlight
  • Batteries (purchase extra, if possible)
  • First Aid kit
  • Medications (seven-day supply) and any necessary medical items
  • Sanitation and personal hygiene items
  • Copies of social security card, birth certificate etc.
  • Charge your cell phone and be sure to have a charger on hand
  • Family/emergency contact information
  • Cash
  • Maps of the area in which you live
  • Baby supplies (bottles, baby food, diapers)
  • Pet supplies (collar, leash, food, bowl)
  • Extra set of car and house keys
  • Extra clothing and sturdy shoes
  • Sunscreen and insect repellent
  • Camera (shoot photos of damage, post storm)

The list above comes from the American Red Cross (find it on the as well).
