Mr. Souvlaki: Home of the Greek Chow Mein

The local favorite offers authentic Greek dishes like saganaki and taramosalata.

For a total Greek experience, I checked out the Mr. Souvlaki Restaurant, located at 802 N. Pinellas Ave.

It was the first time I tried the infamous cheese dish known as saganaki ($7.95), where the server set a sizzling pan of Grecian cheese ablaze right next to my table. Although I was convinced I would have leftovers, the cheese was far too good to save for later.

As an entree, I went with the establishment's signature dish, Greek Chow Mein ($6.25/half order of vegetarian style). The combination included a fresh mix of sauteed peppers with onions and a tasty tomato sauce. The mixture was set atop rice pilaf and blended with shredded feta cheese. For meat lovers, try it topped with chicken or pork ($8.50/half order), shrimp ($9.75/half order) or gyro ($8.50/half order).
