• Tarpon Springs rejects medical office over flood risk (suncoastnews.com) — Tarpon Springs commissioners have unanimously rejected a proposed 13,057-square-foot medical and office building at Meres Boulevard and Alt U.S. 19, citing flood risks and design concerns. The project’s finished floor would sit several feet below required base flood elevation, relying on dry floodproofing the city generally discourages. Officials also questioned traffic access, sight lines, and how the building fits the surrounding corridor.
   

• New marker keeps memory of slain Tarpon Springs officer alive (suncoastnews.com) — A new memorial marker now stands at Grand Boulevard in Tarpon Springs, honoring fallen police officer Charles “Charlie” Kondek Jr. and giving his family and neighbors a place of remembrance instead of avoidance. Driven by a local teen’s initiative and embraced by city leaders, the plaque recounts Kondek’s sacrifice and aims to remind passersby of his service to the community.
