Stolen: City Of Tarpon Springs Truck

Police are asking folks to be on the lookout for a stolen Tarpon Springs Building Maintenance Department pickup truck.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL — The Tarpon Springs Police Department is on the hunt for a thief accused of taking a five-finger discount on a pickup truck Friday morning. The truck in question should be fairly easy to spot on local roads. It has the City of Tarpon Springs’ seal emblazoned on its doors.

According to the police department, an employee in the city's building maintenance department stopped by the Lowe’s at 41800 U.S. 19 N. just before 7 a.m. May 12. As the worker was picking up materials for the city, the truck was left unattended and turned off. The keys, however, were left in the ignition, the police department wrote in an email to media.

While the truck sat in the loading area, a man on a bicycle rode up to the truck, police say, got in and then look off north out of the parking lot. The man left the bicycle behind, authorities say. The two-wheeled ride is now being processed as evidence in the case. A surveillance shot from the scene was also captured, but video is not yet available.

Police say the missing truck is a white four-wheel drive 2007 Ford F150 pickup. It has a yellow city tag on it with the tag number XA4923. Tarpon Springs’ seals are found on both the driver’s side and passenger doors.
