Suspicious Death Under Investigation In Tarpon Springs

Tarpon Springs police say a man's body was found in a wooded area Sunday morning.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL β€” The Tarpon Springs Police Department is investigating the death of a man whose body was found early Sunday morning in a wooded area near North Safford Avenue.

According to the agency, officers were called to the 600 block of North Safford Avenue around 9:25 a.m. Jan. 8. When officers arrived, they found a man dead.

β€œThe area where the deceased was discovered is an apparent homeless camp that the male shared with two other subjects,” an email from the department said. The two other people found the man and reported the discovery by calling 911 from the Citgo station at 801 N. Pinellas Ave., the email said.

The man’s death is being investigated as suspicious.

Police have not yet released the man’s identity. The cause of death is pending review by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
