Tarpon Prepares for Tropical Storm Isaac

The latest reports show that the storm is expected to make its mark on Monday morning, and Tarpon Springs residents are not taking the threat lightly.

Reports indicate that , but is not expected to hit Tampa Bay head on. However, Tarpon Springs officials are encouraging city residents to take proper precautions because a storm surge is likely, possibly bringing tornadoes and multiple inches of rain.

Rain and winds should pick up later today, so utilize this information and play it safe:

For sandbags
The Tarpon Springs Fire Department is handing out sandbags to area residents at two locations. You can pick them up on the end of the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks (at Dodecanese Boulevard and Roosevelt Boulevard) or at the Live Oak Dog Park (on Live Oak Street).

For supplies
was running low on storm supplies Sunday morning because of the sudden high demand for items like bottled water, flashlights and canned goods. However, the location was able to receive an emergency delivery full of drinking water, flashlights, batteries of all sizes, propane, canned goods, non-perishable items and first aid kits.
