Tarpon Springs Bicyclist Hit By Truck

A Tarpon Springs bicyclist suffered serious injuries Wednesday morning when he was sideswiped by a truck in Hernando County, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Gerald R. Rutigliano, 60, was riding on Hayman Road near Culbreath Road when he was hit by a 1998 Dodge Ram, the newspaper reports, citing a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Rutigliano was thrown from his bike and landed on the grass shoulder, the newspaper reports. He was taken to a local hospital, where he remained in guarded condition.

The 63-year-old driver of the truck was given a citation for failing to yield to the right of way, the Times reports. Glare from the rising sun was cited as a possible factor.
