Tarpon Springs Elementary Principal: 'We Promise to Remain Focused on the Safety of Your Children'

Tarpon Springs Elementary School released a statement to its parents and families on Sunday night.

After tragedy struck an elementary school in Newtown, CT, a local principal is speaking out through Facebook about the school's focus on safety.

On Sunday evening,Β Tarpon Springs Elementary SchoolΒ Principal, Lakisha Falana extended a message through the TSES PTAΒ Facebook page:

"Greetings Tarpon Springs Elementary Families,Β Β
This is Lakisha Falana, Principal, with some important messages and reminders for our last week of learning in the 2012 calendar year.
With the tragic events that unfolded last week in Connecticut, I want to assure you that we take the safety of your children very seriously. An event like this gives us cause to reflect and review all of our own safety procedures. We appreciate your efforts in keeping our students safe. We promise to remain focused on the safety of your children as a top priority every day.Β We have not shared nor will we share information about the tragedy with the students. We need to leave those discussions to the discretion of you, the parents. If you share with your child, please be aware that others may choose not to and we need to ask our children to be respectful of that choice."

The TSES PTA uses the form of social media to connect parents, students and teachers at the school.
