City Council Expected to Hear School Presentations

Principals from local middle and high schools are scheduled to speak tonight.

Mayor Joe Affronti and the City Council will hear from school principals at their next two meetings to better understand the programs and activities at local schools.

These presentations were supposed to begin Oct. 18 but were canceled because of inclement weather.

Middle and high school principals will speak at tonight’s meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. at . Principals from , , , , and will talk about the educational opportunities they offer.

According to theΒ meeting agenda, the council is also scheduled to:

  • have two public hearings.
    The first involves amending the city’s Comprehensive Plan by updating a capital improvements element.
    The second involves rezoning Lovelace Dairy Farm at 7911 and 8601 Harney Road from Hillsborough County Agricultural-Rural and Planned Development to City Agricultural-Urban.
    Anyone can speak at these hearings, which are the second and final hearings in both cases. After the hearings, the council will vote on each issue.
  • vote on three resolutions.
    The first involves the purchase of a 2011 aerial truck in the amount of $149,18.
    The second involves the purchase of a 2013 Mack model GU 712 truck with a crane in the amount of $174,987.
    The last involves allowing city staff to negotiate an agreement with Toppe Consultants to be the city’s representative and planning consultant for the new Arts and Education Center design coordination and interior planning. If negotiations with Toppe are unsuccessful, city staff would negotiate with Woodroffe Corporation Architects.
  • select a vice mayor.
  • proclaim November National Hospice & Palliative Care Month.
