City Receives Finance Award

The has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 33rd consecutive year.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) made the announcement in Chicago, honoring Temple Terrace for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2010.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. The City’s CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story, the association wrote.

In determining Temple Terrace’s eligibility, judges weighed several factors, such as whether the City’s document was easily readable, efficiently organized and in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, said Director Diane Reichard.

“It’s a prestigious award and a wonderful achievement,” Reichard said.

“It’s a privilege to work for an organization that strives for excellence,” she added. “I appreciate the support we’ve received from the City Council, and I’d like to thank all the departments for their hard work to ensure we complied with the standard and legal requirements.”

The GFOA is a nonprofit association serving about 17,500 government finance professionals nationally. Its offices are in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
