Community Invited to Rec Center July 21

The complex will be open to all residents free of charge for the city's annual Family Fun Day.

It was an usual sight at a Temple Terrace City Council meeting—eight gymnasts from the used the main aisle of the Council Chambers to perform cartwheels, splits and tumbles Tuesday evening.

“I think you can agree those were all 10s,” Director James Chambers said of the girls’ short routines.

The City Council had just proclaimed July “Recreation and Parks Month” in Temple Terrace.

As part of the annual recognition, the city’s Leisure Services Department typically has a Family Fun Day at the Family Recreation Complex to show the community all of the health and athletic programs and classes it offers—from swimming to dancing, tennis to basketball. Everyone is invited free of charge.

This year’s event will take place July 21, Chambers announced.

included contests, door prizes, water activities, sports games and food for sale.

After each gymnast performed, applause rumbled through the Council Chambers, including those from Councilman and Vice Mayor Ron Govin.

“I think that certainly is indicative of what happens at the Recreation Center,” he said of the routines.
