Council to Learn More About ‘Innovation Destination’

How will the Hillsborough County plan affect Temple Terrace?

In May, the Temple Terrace City Council approved a motion to support Hillsborough County Commissioner Victor Crist’s “” proposal. Tonight (June 5), council members will learn more about the plan and how it might affect Temple Terrace.

Innovation Destination, which received unanimous approval from County Commissioners last month, will help communities from I-275 east to I-75, and from Sligh Avenue north to New Tampa.

Mary Samaniego, a planner from the city’s Community Development Department, will give a presentation on the proposal and what it means for the city.

According to the meeting agenda, Mayor Joe Affronti and city council members will also:

  • consider several amendments to the city’s Comprehensive Plan in order to conform with language changes in the state legislature;
  • consider the purchase and installation of an emergency generator at should the facility need to be used as a shelter;
  • hear a presentation on the police officers’ retirement system;
  • consider rezoning the property located at 8811 N. 78th St. from Multi-Family Residential to Single Family Residential;
  • recognize Ray Chiaramonte, the new executive director of the Hillsborough County City County Planning Commission; and
  • proclaim National Garden Week.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at . It will be  live on Verizon channel 39 and Bright House channel 950 and rebroadcast on Mondays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 p.m.
