Downtown Gazebo Will Provide Shelter During Events

The structure is being built in the downtown redevelopment area and should be finished by Thanksgiving.

Construction on the gazebo in the downtown redevelopment area has begun.

β€œThe gazebo provides a shelter from sun and rain for events the city may want to hold,” said Mike Lant, of M.J. Lant Developments, a member of Vlass Temple Terrace LLC, the developer of the project. β€œFrom a small jazz band to children’s choir, weddings, etc.”

The structure is steel with concrete columns, Lant said. It will have an exposed wood ceiling and a terracotta tile roof.Β

The gazebo will be the centerpiece of a 1-acre park that is planned between Main Street, which will run from Chicago Avenue north to Bullard Parkway, and multi-family residential spaces, which will replace the current buildings that housed , , and other businesses.

The structure will be completed by Thanksgiving, Lant said.

β€œThis Thanksgiving, please be around,” Mike Vlass, head of Vlass Temple Terrace, told the City Council in July. β€œWe’re going to have a big party.”
