Garden Club Honored at Commission Meeting

The Hillsborough County Commission commended the at its meeting Wednesday, recognizing the club’s 65th anniversary and its leadership, dedication and service to the community.

Commissioner Victor Crist, who lived in Temple Terrace for 26 years, asked club president Norma Walker and others from the Garden Club to come to the front of the room to be honored.

“As a former resident of the Temple Terrace area, I know Ms. Walker’s good work and the great work of our Temple Terrace Garden Club, working diligently to ensure that Temple Terrace remains the beautiful part of our county—the beautiful city—that it is, helping others to understand and appreciate the importance of horticulture and gardening, and to ensure that our gardens are the most incredible anywhere that can be found,” Crist said. “They say that New Jersey’s The Garden State, but here in Florida, we know that Temple Terrace is The Garden City, and that’s thanks to the outstanding work that you’ve been doing to ensure just that.”

Crist said he thought this was the first time that commissioners had ever recognized the Garden Club, which he said was “long overdue.”

 “Thank you very much for the recognition and the honor,” Walker said. “We appreciate it very much.”
