Police Accreditation Team Invites Public Comment

Assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation will visit the Temple Terrace Police Department in April.

TEMPLE TERRACE, FL β€” The Temple Terrace Police Department announced that assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation will arrive at the department on Tuesday, April 4, to begin a three-day examination of all aspects of the department's policies, procedures, management, operations and support services.

This examination will ensure that the Temple Terrace Police Department complies with approximately 236 individual standards required to retain its status as an accredited agency in the State of Florida. Many of these standards are critical to life, health and safety issues.

The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from agencies throughout the state. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals and visit offices and other places where compliance can be witnessed.

As part of the three-day on-site assessment, the public, police department staff and other city employees are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. The comments must address the Temple Terrace Police Department's ability to comply with CFA standards and be submitted in writing to CFA, PO Box 1489, Tallahassee, FL 32302.

Once the CFA assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report back to the full commission, which will then decide whether the department will retain its accredited status for the next three years.

Verification by the team that the Temple Terrace Police Department meets the commission's standards is part of a voluntary process that must be undertaken every three years to maintain accreditation, a highly regarded statewide recognition of law enforcement professionalism and excellence.
