School Board Considers Redistricting

Board members will meet in a workshop Tuesday to rank new maps.

The Hillsborough County School Board is redrawing its districts. At a workshop Tuesday, board members are scheduled to rank four new alternative maps and review comments gathered during five public meetings in each of the five districts. The board will choose one new map Oct. 4 during a public hearing.

According to a story by Sherri Ackerman posted Tuesday morning on TBO.com, redrawing school board districts is similar to redistricting efforts at all government levels.

“A population shift toward East Hillsborough in the past decade has thrown the five districts out of whack, so that one district has 60,000 more people than another,” the story states.
