Soggy Doggy Day Makes a Splash

On Saturday, Temple Terrace went to the dogs—nearly 100 of them—during the city’s first-ever Soggy Doggy Day.

The pups-only pool party at the Family Recreation Complex saw canines chasing tennis balls, swimming for Frisbees and competing in contests.

It was a “tremendous success,” according to a city press release.

“(It) exceeded our expectations,” Temple Terrace Leisure Services Director James Chambers said in the release. “It was a huge success, and more importantly, everybody had fun. The dogs looked like they were having the time of their lives.”

For safety and sanitary reasons, people weren’t allowed in the pool, Chambers said in the release. It was drained immediately after the event for scheduled annual maintenance.

Thanks to its success, the city hopes to make Soggy Doggy Day an annual event, Chambers said in the release. The department will look at expanding it next year, possibly adding vendors and other activities.
