Temple Terrace Elementary Students Receive National Honors for Year-Long Project
The second-graders tied for first place in the Radiant Peace Foundation's annual education contest.

A group of Temple Terrace Elementary students received national honors for their efforts to promote peace.
Lynn Smalley's second-grade class at Temple Terrace Elementary School tied for first place in the Radiant Peace Foundation's annual education contest.
The students each made dozens of greeting cards as a year-long service project to deliver to veterans at the James Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa.

In addition, they wrote and illustrated a book dedicated to the veterans who have served the United States, created a peace quilt and made matching T-shirts. Â
"They learned that a small child can make a big difference in someone's day," said Smalley.

Each student earned a Radiant Peace patch, a certificate and the class won a monetary prize to spend on the classroom.
