A 24-year-old faces first-degree murder charges after Temple Terrace Police say he killed a man during a Wednesday home invasion.

TEMPLE TERRACE, FL β€” The Temple Terrace Police Department is investigating a Wednesday evening home invasion that took a deadly turn. One man is in custody while another suspect remains at large.

According to the police department, officers were called to the Summit West Apartments around 5:49 p.m. Dec. 28. A 911 caller reported a shooting and burglary in progress, the agency noted in an email to media.

When police arrived at the apartment in the 11500 block of Summit West Blvd., they found Mackelle Lemon Burnett, 41. Burnett, the agency said, had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead.

Detectives say the investigation revealed that two men forced their way inside Burnett’s apartment, prompting a fight. During that struggle, Burnett was shot and Parish Devante Jordan, 24, of Tampa, was also shot. Jordan is one of the accused attackers, the police department said.

Jordan and the unidentified suspect are believed to have fled the shooting in a white Kia. Police caught up with Jordan, who turned 24 on Wednesday, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the email said. He was arrested without incident on first-degree murder charges. Police say his injuries are not life-threatening.
