Woman's Club Accepting Fran Barford Award Nominations

From the Temple Terrace Woman’s Club:

Do you know someone you think should be honored for his or her public service? This is an opportunity to recognize that service.

The is accepting nominations for the 2011 Fran Barford Public Service Award through Oct. 31.

This annual award was created to honor Mayor Fran Barford and to recognize persons in public service who have excelled in their contribution to the Temple Terrace community. Fran Barford, a Woman’s Club member, was the first woman elected to serve as mayor of the City of Temple Terrace.

The award will be presented Dec. 15, 2011 at the Woman’s Club Christmas Luncheon, which is scheduled to take place at the .

Temple Terrace Firefighter and Paramedic David Becker was the 2010 recipient of this prestigious award.

The rules for nominating a candidate for this award are:

• The person nominated must have distinguished himself or herself in public service to the Temple Terrace Community.
• The individual must be either a past or present city employee, a current or former official of the city, or a person who is serving or has served on boards appointed by the city. The individual does not have to be a Temple Terrace resident.
• A club, organization or individual desiring to nominate someone should write a letter and/or use an “Application Form” with biographical information providing the history of the nominee’s public service and the reason for the nomination. “Application Forms” are available from Jo Ann Woodard by calling 813-988-1290 or Joyce Meitin at 813-988-6975.
