The Davidsen Running Club, through the Nike Re-Use-a-Shoe program, is sponsoring a shoe drive. Simply drop your shoes into the collection boxes located at the Westchase Swim and Tennis Center on Countryway Boulevard, the YMCA in West Park Village or Davidsen Middle School. The shoes can be in any condition; they simply need to have a rubber sole.
Donated shoes will be recycled into athletic courts, tracks, fields and playgrounds. The recycling program not only helps provide kids with much-needed play areas, it also positively affects the environment. Donating a pair of shoes takes one more pair out of the landfill and will help cut down on the use of virgin rubber that is traditionally used to build those facilities, thus decreasing the environmental impact on rain forests.
