Candle Light Vigil Planned For Slain Westchase Swim Coach

The Westchase Community Association will hold a candlelight vigil for Coach Kelley Allen on Sunday, Nov. 11.

The event takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Glencliff Park, 12292 Glencliff Circle.

Allen spent years working for the Westchase Community Association as a swim coach.

"Coach Kelly was a great coach and will be missed and remembered by myself and my two daughters on the swim team," wrote Chris Senior on Westchase Patch's Facebook Page.

Allen, 49, was shot to death Oct. 28, along with his live-in girlfriend, Imari Shibata, also 49. According to Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies, Shibata’s 18-year-old son, Benjamin Bishop, used a 12-gauge shotgun to kill the couple.

Allen worked as both an advanced swimming coach and an instructor for the Little Flippers class.

Since news of Allen's death broke, Westchase Patch readers have been remembering him fondly and others have uploaded photos of Allen.

“Kelly was a gentle spirit who seemed to have found a special place in the world,” wrote Westchase Patch reader Janice Rush. “He infused drive in myself and my children. We will are saddened to know he was taken too soon.”

Allen's memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Prince of Peace Church, located at 702 Valley Forge Blvd. in Sun City Center.
