Stamp Out Hunger This Saturday; Leave a Canned Good For Your Postal Carrier

May 14 leave canned goods by your mailbox to help the hungry.

Doing your part to end hunger will be as simple as walking to the mailbox this Saturday.

On Saturday, May 14 the United States Postal Service will pick up non-perishable items when they deliver your mail.

This year marks the postal service's 19th annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive. The drive helps to stock local food pantries.

On Saturday just leave your canned and other non-perishable food items beside your mailbox. Your letter carrier will pick the items up when they deliver your mail.

  •  49.1 million Americans live in food-insecure households. Food insecurity means not knowing where the next wholesome meal will come from.
  • Children make up 17.2 million living in food-insecure households.
  • 2.5 million are seniors over age 65 Americans in food-insecure households have had to decide between paying for food and paying for medicine an increase of 7 percent are seniors.
  • Last year 4.8 million needy households received emergency food from a food bank or pantry.
