What's Wrong With This Sign?

The answer may or may not matter to you.

We drive by them everyday, but do we really "see" them?

On a recent trip around Westchase, Patch discovered that some of the signs at the entrance of popular commercial hubs were outdated. Some listed businesses that were no longer located in Westchase.

For example, at the entrance of West Park Village on Montague St. the black marquis sign list Blessed Creations and Bellisimo Ristorante and Bona Pizza as being located in the village shops, yet both are no longer located there.

Over at the Linebaugh Publix Shopping Center, the Village Plaza portion of the strip mall has a sign that list Cupcake! Cupcake and Chico's Wood Fired Grill, however neither are located there.

Cupcake! Cupcake has been closed since 2009. Chico's closed earlier this year.

Does it matter?

Some say the signs show a lack of upkeep in a community that deems itself well organized and pristine.

Westchase's governmental entities have little control over the signs. Several years ago the Westchase Community Development District included a separate board responsible for commercial properties, but it was dismantled a few years ago.

"We have no jurisdiction over commercial properties," said Sonny Whyte, CDD office manager.

So the onus lands on the property managers of those shopping centers.

After Patch made a call this week to West Park Village property management, the company indicated they would be updating the signs today, Tuesday, Oct. 11.
