GA Deputy Shot While Serving Search Warrant, Suspect Dead

A GA deputy, who was serving a GBI search warrant Tuesday, was injured in a shooting three days after another deputy was shot and killed.

CARROLLTON, GA — A Carroll County deputy was shot while serving a search warrant Tuesday morning near Don Rich Drive, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office said.

The suspect in the shooting is dead, 11Alive reported. The person was not identified, and details were limited around noon Tuesday.

The sheriff's office said the warrant was from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The deputy was taken to a hospital, and authorities have not released the status of the deputy's condition.

"Please pray for the deputy, his family and our department. Further details will be released at a later time. Please avoid the area," authorities wrote in a Facebook post.

The shooting of the deputy comes three days after Paulding County Deputy Brandon Cunningham, 30, was shot and killed while responding to a domestic dispute. Local authorities said the deputy was ambushed and was shot within 8 seconds of getting out of his patrol car.

The accused gunman, identified by authorities as 42-year-old James Samuel Atkins, took his own life, authorities said.
