Acworth Golfers Qualify for U.S. Open

Jason Bohn of Acworth earned medalist honors at the U.S. Open golf qualifying Monday in Suwanee.

PGA Tour player Jason Bohn of Acworth shot 65-70 to finish at 7-under 135 and earn medalist honors in U.S. Open golf qualifying Monday at the River Club in Suwanee.

Nationwide player and 2003 U.S. Amateur runner-up Casey Wittenberg of Memphis, TN, finished one stroke back, carding 68-68, according to Georgia State Golf Association officials. Local club professional Tim Weinhart of Alpharetta, who teaches at The Standard Club in Johns Creek, earned a spot in the U.S. Open for the first time in his career, nabbing the final qualifying spot with a 137 (69-68).

Nationwide Tour player James Love of Canada fired a 66 in the first round, then followed up with a 72 to earn first alternate. James White of Acworth, who just graduated from Georgia Tech, grabbed the second alternate spot at 1-under 141.

The River Club played to 7,089 yards and a par 71.

The 112th U.S. Open Championship will be held at The Olympic Club in San
Francisco June 11-17.
