Final Town Hall Meeting On Proposed Millage Hike: Monday In Cobb
In Acworth, Cobb Commission Chairman Mike Boyce is hosting the last town hall meeting Monday, July 24 on the 2017 millage rate proposal.
ACWORTH, GA -- The final town hall on Cobb County's 2017 millage rate proposal will be held 7 p.m., Monday, July, 24 at the North Cobb Senior Center in Acworth. Cobb Commission Chairman Mike Boyce is hosting the meetings so that residents can be fully informed on the proposals and also voice their concerns.
The meetings come after the Board of Commissioners announced that it intends to raise property taxes it will levy this year, over the rollback millage rate, by 10.20 percent in the County Maintenance & Operations (General) Fund. "The Cobb County Board of Commissioners (BOC) is proposing the property tax millage rate of the General Fund be set at 6.89; the Fire millage rate at 2.96; the Debt Service (Bond Fund) millage at 0.13; the Cumberland Special Services District II millage rate at 2.41, and the Six Flags Special Service District millage rate at 3.50," the county says in a news release.

The millage is tied to Cobb's property values, which are determined by the Board of Tax Assessors. The board's rationale is that Cobb's real estate market is on the upswing, thus prompting an increase in the county’s property tax digest.
Below is a video Boyce has produced to provide context for the increase.
