The Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday accused Andre Alvear, 26, of Acworth, of closing the front door on the deputies after a brief conversation when they arrived.
He then opened the door and lunged at one of the deputies with a knife, injuring the deputy in the face, the GBI said. They added the deputy retreated, and Alvear chased the deputy with the knife.

Deputies then shot and killed Alvear, the GBI said. The woman's body was found upstairs in the home, the GBI said.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday said they believe the woman found decayed is Alvear's mother, Luisa Penetra, 61, of Acworth. Though they said evidence suggested her identity, a forensic autopsy is still being performed.
A cause of death for Penetra was not known "due to the advanced stage of decomposition," authorities said. A manner of death was not revealed for Penetra.
