Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. Mark your calendars for the Alpharetta Avalon Jingle Jog on December 5th! This event is open to children aged 17 and under and includes a one mile fun run race. Afterwards, you can enjoy a holiday brunch, Nutcracker Ballet performance and other holiday activities. Registration is limited to 200 participants. (Awesome Alpharetta)
  2. Are you interested in getting a COVID-19 vaccine before Thanksgiving? Qualified Milton residents can take advantage of a clinic. It will take place in Community Place near City Hall this Friday starting at noon. The vaccines will be given by members of the Milton Fire-Rescue Department. If you have questions on the type(s) of vaccine being offered, please email covidsupport@miltonga.gov or Firefighter Derek Hofmann at derek.hofmann@miltonga.gov.(City of Milton)
  3. Our schools will have a remote learning day on December 6th due to the upcoming runoff election. Many schools in Fulton County are polling sites, and there will be significant traffic at the schools that day. The election is necessary because neither U.S. Senate candidate received 50% of the vote, which is required by law. The schools will return to in person learning on December 7th. (Reporter Newspapers + Atlanta Intown)
  4. This Saturday is National Take a Hike Day! Here's a great way to celebrate: Bring the whole family for a FREE event on the beautiful trails of the Alpharetta Greenway. Enjoy a guided hike, crafts, educational workshops and more! It will start at 1:00 PM at the Preston Ridge Community Center located at Preston Ridge Rd Suite 100 in Alpharetta. From my notebook:

  • It's gotten much colder this week and many of us want to start using our fireplace to stay warm. Make sure to open the flue or damper before you light a fire.( Some of us like to keep it closed when it's warm to keep wildlife out. ) If you don't, the smoke could end up in your house, and firefighters will show up. • If you're planning to visit Lake Lanier this week, please note that several areas will be closed due to the annual Buford Dam Deer Hunt. It will take place starting today and will go through Thursday. The closed areas include: Laurel Ridge Trail, Sawnee Campground,, West Bank Park, Lower Pool West Park, Lower Overlook Park, Lower Pool East Park, Buford Dam Park, East Bank Park, Lanier Park, Burton Mill Park, Van Pugh South Campground and Chestnut Ridge Campground. The purpose of the archery-only event is for public safety and to make sure the remaining deer have sufficient food for the winter. (WSB Atlanta)
