Alpharetta Extends Rucker Road Improvements Into Roswell

The City Council approved a change order to continue its Rucker Road improvement project into Roswell's jurisdiction.

ALPHARETTA, GA — The Alpharetta City Council has approved an agreement with the city of Roswell to perform Rucker Road improvements within its jurisdiction.

The Council at its Monday, Dec. 3 meeting approved a change order in the amount of $2.9 million for an existing contract with CW Matthews to extend its work on the project into Roswell's city limits. Alpharetta notes more than $770,000 of the total cost is associated with Fulton County's water main work.

CW Matthews will start work immediately on the project, and Roswell will be responsible for any citizen coordinated association with work done in within its boundary. Roswell will also reimburse Alpharetta for the work performed in the city.

Alpharetta staff members note in city documents that approving the change order will reduce the time it will take to complete Roswell's section of Rucker Road and "overall disruption to the citizens who live along the corridor." The anticipated completion date of the section within Roswell is late summer 2019, Alpharetta states.

The Rucker Road Corridor Improvement Project, which was funded by the city's 2016 bond projects, originally stretched west from Wills Road to Roswell. The section will continue from Roswell's border and extend west until it reaches Houze Road/Ga. 140.

Primarily designed to improve safety and traffic flow while reducing vehicle speeds, the project will result in narrower vehicle travel lanes and operational improvements at key intersections. Two roundabouts, one located at the intersection with Charlotte Drive and the other at the entrances of the Fairfax and Northfield neighborhoods, are key elements of the project. Significant pedestrian, streetscape and aesthetic enhancements are also important components.
