Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:
- Are you interested in gardening? You should check out the Alpharetta Garden Club. They hold monthly meetings, work on the garden at the historic Mansell House, host special events and much more! The February meeting, which takes place at 9:30 a.m. today, is called “Nature Artistry.” It is a presentation by Kathy Rennell Forbes, a watercolor artist. The meetings take place at The Mansell House, 1835 Old Milton Parkway in Alpharetta. (Alpharetta Garden Club)
- A Milton man was a victim of fraud; he gave $5,000 to a suspect who posed as his son's lawyer. He initially received a call from someone pretending to be his son, who said he had been arrested for driving under the influence with a pregnant woman. He then got another call from someone posing as his son's lawyer who said they needed cash and was told to meet a "bond agent" with it. He withdrew the money and gave it to a woman in a Chevrolet Equinox which turned out to be a rental car. (Appen)
- Milton road crews have made a lot of progress on a new center island at the Hopewell Road and Bethany Bend intersection. This project should be completed at the end of March, weather permitting. This link shows the progress that has been made, including pouring the concrete. (City of Milton)
- A 79-year-old Cumming man has been arrested for theft by deception. The police received a call in 2022 from the Iowa City Police, stating that someone there had sent Harvey Neal an envelope with $2,000. Neal lives at Shady Grove RV Park in Cumming, and their manager told police that Neal frequently receives envelopes that appear to include cash. He also believes that Neal has received card readers. Neal is currently at the Forsyth County Jail. (Appen)
