Alpharetta Hosting Food Drive To Help Families

A Holiday Food Drive Finale will be held Dec. 21, and will include a visit with Santa, falling snow and fire pits to roast marshmallows.

ALPHARETTA, GA — The city of Alpharetta is in the final days of its food drive to help fight hunger among its residents. This community-wide effort benefiting the North Fulton Community Charities began at the city's Dec. 1 tree lighting event.

Alpharetta aims to re-stock North Fulton Community Charities' food pantry shelves so the organization can continue providing food assistance to more than 125 families per day.

“We are spreading the spirit of giving,” said Mayor Jim Gilvin. “Our hope is that Alpharetta will come together in an effort to help those in need right here in our community.”

“We are so excited to be partnering with the city of Alpharetta this year for the Season of Celebration Food Drive,” said Melody Fortin, director of Food Pantry Services at North Fulton Community Charities. “NFCC Food Pantry usage is up 12 percent in 2018 so every donation is really needed. Keeping the families in need fed wouldn’t be possible without the support of our generous community.”

There are seven drop-off locations around the city that are accepting donations through Dec. 21:

  • Alpharetta Adult Activity Center/North Park, 13450 Cogburn Road
  • Alpharetta Arts Center, 238 Canton Street
  • Alpharetta City Hall, 2 Park Plaza
  • Avalon Concierge/Valet Parking, 400 Avalon Boulevard
  • Alpharetta First Baptist Church, 44 Academy Street
  • Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, 180 Academy Street
  • Wills Park Recreation Center, 11925 Wills Road.

NFCC is also offering curb-side donation drop-off so residents can drop donations before parking. To thank donors for participating, they will receive a booklet filled with seasonal savings to more than 50 Alpharetta restaurants and businesses.
