Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. There's still time to sign up for summer camps and activities offered by the City of Alpharetta. There are programs for all age groups including sports, art, music and more! In addition, there are openings for teams including gymnastics. Register today! (City of Alpharetta)
  2. There is a new playground in Johns Creek at Bell-Boles Park, located 10575 Bell Road. It is especially designed for children who have special needs. "Equipment in the park is specifically designed to promote sensory development and discovery." The equipment was funded by local businesses and community members. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. Attention to voters in Milton elections, due to changes in the polling process, there will be only two locations for voting on Election Day. They are Milton City Hall and the Milton City Park and Preserve. This change affects voters in precincts ML05, ML06A and ML06B, which are in the city’s southeast corner. In addition, you won't be able to vote early at the Alpharetta Library; all early voting will take place at Milton City Hall. The ballots will be hand counted in Milton, which is less expensive than using scanners. (Appen)
  4. A high school sophomore from Mount Vernon School organized a community event that provided 629 new pairs of shoes for students at Lake Forest Elementary School in Sandy Springs. Collin Maher, who's a nationally ranked runner, organized a 5K run in February. Runners paid $45, and the event raised $18,000. Nearly all of the students at Lake Forest are economically disadvantaged, and the generous gifts were very well received. (FOX 5 Atlanta)

From my notebook:

  • Last weekend, the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety honored fallen firefighters. It is a very difficult job, and requires missing time with family and friends, plus sometimes they pay the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you for keeping our community safe! (Alpharetta Department of Public Safety via Facebook)
  • The Milton High School Percussion Ensemble recital last week was awesome! Best wishes to the Class of '23 musicians! (Milton High School Percussion via Facebook)
  • The Milton Library will be reopening soon! The booksales in the barn will resume this Tuesday from 1-5:50 p.m., and the proceeds benefit library programs. In addition, self-serve sales in the lobby will resume tomorrow. Check out the library calendar for upcoming events including book clubs, summer reading program and live theatre.
