ALPHARETTA, GA — Four elementary schools in Fulton County have been recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as some of the highest-performing Title I schools in the state.

This distinction places these schools — Amana Academy and Hillside, River Eves and Woodland elementary schools — on the 2018 list of Title I Distinguished Schools. Amana Academy is in Alpharetta while Hillside and River Eves are in Roswell and Woodland in Sandy Springs.

"The success of these schools is mirrored by the hard work and commitment of our teachers, school leaders, and parents," said Fulton County Schools Chief Academic Officer Cliff Jones. "We recognize the additional assistance needed to educate students from varying socioeconomic backgrounds and are extremely proud to celebrate their achievement."

Title I is a federal program that provides additional funding to schools serving children living in or near poverty areas and who are at risk for not meeting the state's performance standards. The funds are distributed by the federal government, through the Georgia Department of Education, to assist schools in educating students who are economically disadvantaged.
